At KEIG, our Chicken Project is a powerful initiative aimed at empowering women through cooperative farming. This project not only provides economic opportunities for women but also supports our mission of assisting out-of-school girls and teen mothers.
Challenge & Solution
We begin the project by bringing day-old chicks and working together as a group to rear them until they are 4 to 6 weeks old. This collaborative effort not only strengthens the sense of community among the women but also equips them with essential skills in poultry farming. Our training sessions cover all aspects of poultry management, ensuring that each participant gains hands-on experience and knowledge.
Community and Economic Benefits
Once the chicks are fully grown, we sell them, and the profits generated are reinvested into the organization. The income supports our various programs, ensuring that the benefits of this project extend beyond the immediate participants to the broader community of vulnerable girls and teen mothers. This initiative fosters economic self-reliance among the women and creates a sustainable model for ongoing support.
Collaboration and Support
The project emphasizes the importance of collaboration. By working together, the women develop a strong support network, encouraging teamwork and mutual assistance. This sense of solidarity not only enhances the efficiency of the project but also boosts morale and self-confidence among the participants.
